Montefiore Medical Center The Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University
The Department provides anesthesiology services at three divisions of Montefiore - the Henry and Lucy Moses Division, the Weiler Division and the Montefiore North Each hospital has its own unique character, yet the Department insures a single standard of care by rotating our faculty through both sites. Each hospital has a Site Director, who facilitates the Department’s goals and maintains its standards. At the Moses Division, a new Children’s hospital opened in November 2001.
Our facilities are located in the North Bronx, separated by a distance of four miles, and have a capacity of over 1,400 beds. The practice has approximately 50 faculty, encompasses over 30,000 anesthetics; and runs 34 operating rooms, a delivery suite, and a consulting service.
August 2008
We have added another hospital to our
organization?the former Our Lady of Mercy
Medical Center is now the North Division
of Montefiore Medical Center. On July 23,
Montefiore became a 1,491 bed academic
medical center with more than 16,000 associates
sharing a commitment to the delivery of high
quality, compassionate care to patients and their
families and the communities we serve.
Anesthesiologists at Montefiore are charged with the perioperative medical management of patients who are to be, or who are rendered unconscious and insensible to pain and emotional stress during surgical, obstetrical and certain other medical procedures. The practice also includes the protection of life functions and vital organs (e.g. brain, heart, lungs, kidney, liver) under the stress of anesthetic, surgical and other medical procedures, and the management of problems in pain relief, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, pulmonary care, and critically ill patients in special care units.
The Department of Anesthesiology provides state-of-the-art care for patients undergoing all types of surgical procedures. In this highly specialized discipline, faculty with particular expertise are available in areas such as cardio-anesthesia, neuro-anesthesia and organ transplantation.
