ACADEMIC PROGRAM
Goals: Clinical Excellence and Perioperative Echocardiography Certification
Fellow Conferences Frequency: Weekly to 2 times per week.

Comments: Recently established ACGME-approved fellowship with new and rapidly growing cardiac surgical volume. CT anesthesiology director is an experienced clinician, researcher, and educator. Publication numbers use combined numbers from fellows trained at director's previous institution.
Funding: Industry funding for studies in neurologic protection, new pharmacology, hemostasis management. Ongoing 8-9 active clinical trials.
Dedicated Research Time: at discretion of director
Echocardiography Instruction: 1 month dedicated in OR and cardiology laboratory. Daily TEE instruction in OR.
Critical Care Rotation: One month
Electives- Formal Course Work Available in: TEE/pediatrics/critical care/research
Maximum Time in Non-OR Activities: at discretion of director

Distribution of cases: 35% CABG, 20% valves, 20% combined or complex, 10% aortic, 5% congenital, 5% heart failure and transplant, 5% minimally invasive or robotic
Average Number of CPB Procedures Per Trainee Per Year: 350
Number of Cardiac Procedures off-CPB Per Year: 250
Distribution of cases: 55% off-pump CABG plus robotic, 25% thoracic aortic, 10% congenital, 10% electrophysiologic minimally invasive
Average Number of off-CPB Procedures Per Trainee Per Year: 80
Number of Non-Cardiac Thoracic Cases Per Year: 450
Number of Heart, Lung and Heart/Lung Transplants Per Year: 14
Number of Major Vascular Cases Per Year: 350
Operating Room Equipment Available: TEE, surface ultrasonography, epiaortic and epicardial scanning, 3D echocardiography, POC hemostasis monitoring, cerebral oximetry, in line blood gas CPB, computer database.
